Taking an in-depth look at graffitis beginnings in Philadelphia and New York to its current status as a worldwide phenomenon, Roger Gastman — graffitis most trusted chronicler and ringmaster — hosts a discussion with celebrated artists Caleb Neelon of Boston, and SABER of Los Angeles. Gastman is the author of Freight Train Graffiti (Harry N. Abrams, 2006), the founder of While You Were Sleeping magazine and a co-founder of Swindle. www.swindlemagazine.com, www.theartwheredreamscometrue.com, www.saberone.com Roger Gastman has been bombarding the free world with art since he was a 14-year-old graffiti writer in the Washington, D.C. area. Only 28 now, Roger has spent over a decade at the organizational forefront of the street and graffiti art movement that has now reached mainstream audiences with two national magazines, nearly a dozen books, several movies, and a host of corporate clients. In his teens, Gastman created his first business venture, distributing the then-hard-to-find aerosol spray nozzles that graffiti writers favor for painting carefully controlled lines. At 19, Gastman started While You Were Sleeping magazine, dedicated to graffiti, tattoo art, street culture, washed-up television actors, and other forms of pop-culture ephemera.
