Content Inside: 4-H Camp Counselor Opportunities Teens develop advanced leadership abilities by serving as 4-H camp counselors as peer helpers as teen program assistants and in other capacities. Teens receive training supervised internships and practical experience in these counselor roles. 4-H Teen Board Members By serving on local state and national 4-H boards and by representing 4-H on the boards of many different partner organizations 4-H teens gain real- life leadership experiences they will use throughout life. For example youth serve on 4-H Teen Councils on 4-H Fashion & Food Boards as representatives on 4-H and Extension Advisory Committees as Junior Fair Board members and as 4-H representatives on the boards of foundations. 4-H Spokesperson Opportunities The Ohio 4-H Ambassadors are a select group of 4-H teens who serve as 4-H youth spokespersons throughout the state as emcees for major 4-H events and as presenters for 4-H programs. In addition many counties have County 4-H Ambassador Programs County 4-H Awareness Teams 4-H Public Relations Corps 4-H Press Corps and related opportunities. Special Emphasis Leadership Programs Special emphasis leadership programs are offered in many counties. For example teen leadership institutes are conducted in cooperation with other agencies in about 20 counties each year. The programs usually included a series of workshops and seminars related to leadership development topics along with a follow up experience. State 4-H Leadership Camp Leadership Camp sponsored by Nationwide and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is the epitome of a successful "learn by doing" approach to leadership development. The only things that are planned before camp begins are the meals the daily two-hour leadership workshops and the camp objectives and theme.
