Content Inside: NEWS RELEASE For immediate release Classical Music Highlights from January – June 2007 Queen Elizabeth Hall & Purcell Room South Bank Centre The 2006/07 season at the South Bank Centre is well underway, with highlights including a song recital with Miah Persson, a mini Bartók festival with András Schiff and worldclass conductors and soloists visiting with our Resident and Associate ensembles, to look forward to. With its most varied series ever, Song on the South Bank offers the opportunity to hear a recital of Schubert songs with Robert Holl accompanied by András Schiff. An imaginative evening recreating one of Rossini’s soirées, held on Saturdays in his Paris home, is presented by Roger Vignoles in April, with Miah Persson, Stella Doufexis and Bruce Ford. Dame Felicity Lott returns to the South Bank Centre with the Nash Ensemble in a programme of familiar as well as less wellknown French song and the series closes with the virtuosic, young countertenor Philippe Jaroussky and his Ensemble Artaserse in Handel and Scarlatti. Jaroussky’s first recital in the UK was at the South Bank Centre’s Early Music Weekend in 2005. This year’s International Chamber Music Season culminates in June with a mini festival of Bartók’s chamber music, played by András Schiff and a string quartet made up of his compatriots, including Gábor TakácsNagy, and Miklós Perényi. The South Bank Centre’s two quartets, the Alban Berg and Takács Quartets will perform in February and May and other internationallycelebrated chamber music artists, including Vadim Repin and Nikolai Lugansky, and Gidon Kremer and Oleg Maisenberg will be at the Queen Elizabeth Hall during the rest of the season. The International Piano Series is as diverse and adventurous as ever and the rest of this season features a host of established artists alongside some rising talent.
