Content Inside: THE LEADING SCHOOL FOR TODAY’S MUSIC INDUSTRY www.aim.edu.au Classical Performance The Classical Department is for students who want to specialize in the performance of an orchestral instrument or in classical voice. AIM provides one-on-one tuition for each student to enhance performance skills both as a soloist and in ensembles. AIM’s Classical Department is recognized as one of the most flourishing and dynamic in the world, boasting many local, national & international prize winners. Through a program of support studies including theory, aural training, chamber music, orchestral studies and performance practice, students are given an education which focuses on achieving intellectual, musical and artistic excellence. Lecturers demonstrate a wide knowledge of style, performance practices, and orchestral experience. Many department staff members are articulate in other areas relating to music practice including composition, musicology, and the Alexander technique. While undertaking a thorough program of technical work, you will be expected to become familiar with the stylistic and technical demands of works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th-century periods. You will also establish and develop analytical practice methods, physical stamina, stylistic awareness, interpretive skills and the ability to effectively communicate musical concepts to an audience. All performers receive a weekly individual lesson, a specialist master class, concert practice and a performance studies class to refine musical and technical skills to the highest standards possible. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants are required to audition with the Head of Department or a senior staff member. The audition will assess your aural and music theory skills as well as your specialist instrumental or vocal skills. The performance of two contrasting works is required for this audition. Auditions are approximately 30 minutes in duration. BACHELOR OF MUSIC (6 TRIMESTERS) St ...
