MCV will be only the 14th group from the USA to participate in the Tattoo. Annual audience is 217,000, and over half of them are from outside Scotland. 100 million view the Tattoo annually on international television. The 2006 Tattoo sold out 6 months before opening night, the 8th successive sold-out season for the Tattoo, and the fastest ever sell-out in the event’s history. Average number of participants: 1000. The event, including rehearsals and performances, lasts a full month. Performances are daily, and twice on Saturday. The word ‘Tattoo’ comes from the closing-time cry in the inns in the Low Countries during the 17th and 18th centuries “Doe den tap toe” (“Turn off the taps!”).
