April 2007 • Construction Update - • What Not to Wear - • See How We Shine - • March Board Notes - After a year of preparation over 230 interviews with parents teachers board members students and community members and anintensivethree-dayvisittheEagleMountain-SaginawIndependent School District received notification from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS/CASI) that the school district will be accredited by the prestigious organization. This accreditation shows that EM-S ISD is a strong school district providing a quality education for its students while cultivatinggrowthinitsemployees.Italso brings a sense of pride to the community and other district stakeholders knowing that the district consistently strives for and achieves success. Districts holding this accreditation are few and far between. According to information provided by SACS/CASI Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD is one of only 100 districts in the United States and one of only two districts in Texas to complete the district accreditation process. The yearlong process which ends with a three-day visit by a quality assurance team measures the capacity of a school system to address three major elements. The school system must meet the standards for accreditation demonstrate a systemic and continuous process of improvement; and implement methods that provide for quality assurance. After reviewing written documents conducting interviews and numerous campus visits the quality assurance team identified the district’s strengths achievements limitations and challenges. At the top of the list of EM-S ISD’s identified strengths were a stable and supportive board of trustees a strong financial base low teacher turn-over and a committed support staff.
