Content Inside: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Art Gallery of Calgary 117 – 8 Avenue S.W. Calgary, AB Graffiti In the Galleries December 2, 2005 – This winter, the Art Gallery of Calgary brings graffiti off the streets and into our galleries so visitors can explore its role in contemporary art. Painting Under Pressure: A Look at Graffiti is a new exhibition devoted to the complex and colourful style of graffiti known as hip-hop graffiti or graffiti art. It will be on view at the AGC from December 10, 2005 through May 21, 2006. Works by Calgary writers Afex, Kido and Bugs will be featured alongside pieces by Crum, Evoke, Kaput, Other and Sight. The exhibition also includes smaller works by Hereone and Storm. Like other forms of contemporary art, hip-hop graffiti reflects the culture of its time, provokes discussion, and embodies artistic concepts such as composition, colour, shape and line. By taking graffiti out of its usual context, such as ba ...
