Volpe, Archivist April, 2002 University of Colorado at Boulder | University Libraries | AMRC Guide to the Early Country Music Collection 2 SCOPE AND CONTENT The Early Country Music Collection was created for the American Music Research Center by Joe Bussard at the request of Professor William Kearns. The original collection was composed of reel-to-reel tapes recorded by Joe Buzzard from approximately 700 original hillbilly and cowboy records from the 1920’s and 1930’s. The original records were recorded primarily in the Blue Ridge section of rural America, northern Georgia, western North Carolina, and southwestern Virginia. Portions of the collection of titles were rerecorded after receipt at the univeristy onto DAT tapes and cassette tapes. Detail lists are available. The finding aid consists of a box and tape list, and an alphabetical list by performer of song transcriptions with some biographical information. In addition there are six appendices as follows: Appendix I: Alphabetical list by title. Appendix II: Alphabetical list by performer. Appendix III: Alphabetical list by group including members names. Appendix IV: Numerical list of reel-to-reel tapes arranged in the original order of the recordings by tape number as they were recorded by Joe Bussard listing titles. Appendix V: Numerical list of DAT tapes that have been produced featuring some of the major performers and arranged in a separate numbering system by title. Appendix VI: Index by Ariel Downing on Cowboy tunes copied onto cassette tapes and listed by cassette tape number and titles.
