Check Out Whats Inside! 1 Self Portrait by Noreen Khalid Say Language seems to be a hot topic these days.  People are finally realizing the devastating effect that certain words can have on the psyche of another person.  What still needs to come to national attention, however, is the absence of certain words and terms.  I heard a woman the other day claim that "were totally   over" being referred to as mankind because "we know it means people."  Should we get over this so soon, though? Would men know that womankind means all people?  Would men feel comfortable being called a congresswoman, mailwoman,       businesswoman, or a househusband?  Idont think so. And I dont think that women should accept being referred to as mankind. How we refer to each other as women is another topic that needs addressing.  Sadly, I hear the words bitch, slut, etc. used all too often. Sure, we women will hurt each other, get mad at each other, and call each other names.  So, whats the problem?  The gendered language is whats wrong here.  The word "bitch" as we all know is technically a female dog.  Only women are called "bitches" (except when men use the word as a derisive term of endearment with each other) and only women can be sluts.  Im all for equal opportunity name-calling.  How about substituting "stud" for "slut"?  It seems to work for promiscuous womens male counterparts.  And how about the term "asshole" instead of "bitch"?  It also seems to work for men ...
