The balance sheet for 2006 The notable acceleration that characterized the second half of 2006 permitted the Italian Mens Fashion sector (understood as including fabric and knit outerwear shirts ties and leather clothing) to recover ground with respect to the still very disappointing results (especially in export) that characterized the start of last year. The sector was thus able to tote up 2006 with sales figures that were substantially stable (- 0.2%) at 8.1 billion euros and to contribute a more than 15% share to the annual turnover of the Italian textiles/fashion sector as a whole (while if we consider only the downline sub-sectors the relative weight of menswear rises to 26.4%). However the annual balance sheet does not show those clear signs of recovery that characterized other segments of the production chain.
