Content Inside: Keeping The Blues Alive – Award 2007 Keeping the Blues Alive Awards The KBA-Award recipients were honored on February 3, 2007 at the Doubletree Hotel in Downtown, Memphis, Tenesse, during the International Blues Challenge weekend of events. Twenty one individuals and organizations were honored with The Blues Foundations 2007 Keeping The Blues Alive (KBA) Award during a recognition brunch on Saturday, February 3 2007, in Memphis, Tennessee. The KBA-Awards recognize the significant contributions to Blues music made by people behind the scenes. This year Thomas Ruf and his label RUF RECORDS received the price for the best record label. Thomas Ruf was born in the black forest in Germany. Already as a pupil he organized concerts and felt his endless passion for Blues music. In 1984, he met Luther Allison. In 1994 Thomas Ruf set up a record label for his rising Blues hero, Luther Allison. In the first 12 years, Ruf produced 120 releases, sold 1.2 million records, and received 2 Grammy nominations as well as 10 Blues Music Award nominations. Thomas Ruf is happy: “It’s a big honor for our work. It’s really crazy when you think about all the US artists, which are working together with a small label in a small german village instead of working together with a big US company.” We are very proud and we would like to give this kind of happiness to all media partners, business partners and friends who supported us all the years.
