Our Jazz Studies students are grounded in classical performance technique, theory, and history, as well as jazz improvisation methodology, composition, arranging, history, pedagogy, and repertoire. M.M. IN JAZZ STUDIES (Instrumental Performance): This degree option is designed for students who already have a solid background in jazz theory, history, and arranging/composition and who demonstrate expertise in jazz performance practice (improvisation) on at least one instrument. This degree allows the advancing performer further in-depth study in jazz while also focusing on pedagogy. M.M. IN JAZZ STUDIES (Composition/Arranging): This degree option is designed for students who already have a solid background in jazz theory, history, and performance and who demonstrate expertise in jazz composition and arranging. This degree allows the advancing writer further in-depth study in jazz while also focusing on pedagogy.
