Content Inside: MUSIC THERAPY The Bachelor of Music degree program in music therapy is designed to prepare students for careers in therapeutic music in various hospital, school, and rehabilitation settings. The program focuses on the preparation of music therapists who will work primarily with persons who have mental illness, physical impairments, and mental impairments. Nine semesters of study are required for the bachelors degree in music therapy. Students who complete the program are eligible for registration with the National Association for Music Therapy. They are also eligible to take the National Board Certification examination for Music Therapists. Requirements for the Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Therapy 1. The University requirements for bachelors degrees as described in the Undergraduate Education section of the catalog; 124 credits, including general elective credits, are required for the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy with piano as the performance area, whereas 126 credits, including general elective credits, are required for the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy with stringed instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments, or voice as the performance area. The Universitys Tier II writing requirement for the Music Therapy major is met by completing Music 381. That course is referenced in item 3. a. below. 2.
