His recent publications include "From Hell or Hollywood" in Reconstruction, Vol. 2, no. II and "Out of Time" in Circa, Vol. 12, no iv. His research interests are primarily in the work of Beckett and Joyce, and in Popular Culture Studies. He occasionally produces creative writing and was once Irish Young Playwright of the Year, but finds that theorizing for a living and writing fiction no longer mix. "Rock and Roll Holiday" is what might be referred to as "autobiographical critfiction" but it is probably wiser not to refer to it at all! `Is this a double bluff, Sir?’ Blank non-recognition, un-recognition, call it what you will. Blankness. ‘Is this a double bluff, Sir?’ The tone more forceful, direct, moments away from a third reiteration that will demand an answer. `Are you aware of your t-shirt, Sir? This strikes me as double bizarre, am I aware of my t-shirt? Has it committed a felony, is it at large? Is it extra large, is that illegal? Her blankness is matched by my confusion. She takes control of the situation. She will enlighten me. Can I please see your passport, Sir? ‘Rodney (for that is the name on the passport), can you place your bag on this counter, and open it please.’ I oblige. The full ramifications of my stupidity are now beginning to hit home. Hanging loosely from my chest is a black and white image of Keith Richards slouching against a water fountain in a non-descript room. Above his tousled tonsure, aviators, and fuddled brain hangs a large sign that insists “Patience Please, a drugs free America comes first.” Yep, there it is in black and white. I am reminded of a screen-saver my PC once ...
