Content Inside: Going For The Bronze! The Duke of Ed Ceremony On March 7 2007 21 par- ticipants were honoured for their achievements for par- ticipating in the Duke of Ed- inburgh program at S.O.A.R. Nine participants received certificates for completing one or more areas of devel- opment: expedition volun- teer work skill development and recreation. Twelve par- ticipants received the Bronze Award for completing all of the four areas of develop- ment. In order to receive their awards participants had to go to Tim Horton's Camp for an expedition trip that included canoeing sur- vival skills and a night hike. They worked on individual skills such as chess com- puters and visual arts. Par- ticipants did volunteer work either through their place- ment or at the Don Valley Brickworks and participated in trips to the YMCA. Participants family friends SOAR and Duke of Ed staff were pleased to be joined by the President of the Ontario Chapter of the Duke of Ed awards Peter Melanson. Peter and SOAR supervisor Toni Grillo pre- sented participants with certificates awards and pins. SOAR and Duke of Ed staff would like to con- gratulate the following par- ticipants for their accom- plishments: CERTIFICATES: Aikin Oscar Minoli Dane Paul David Jeremy Dianna and Matthew. BRONZE AWARD: Misti Hussein Ken Johanna Evan D Kadian Charlene Alyssa Navaid Ryan Ian and Susie. By: Dan In February 2007 the Extended Program par- ticipated in a contest to de- sign the cover for the Spring Edition of the SOAR Citi- zen. Participants developed their computer skills on Mi- crosoft Publisher. The first place winners are: Charlene and Alyssa! The second place win- ners are: Dane and Oscar.
