Content Inside: Winter 2007 Adult Social Clubs: Fun and Friendship One of lifes greatest pleasures is sharing fun times with friends! Going to a movie taking a walk or enjoying a dinner out on the town are all great activities when shared with the company of friends. The Special Programs Division sponsors six (6) Adult Social Clubs all designed to provide social activities in the community for adults with developmental disabilities. Each club has a staff:participant ratio of 1:5; therefore participants must be able to communicate their basic needs handle community based activities take care of their personal care needs as well as be able to follow simple directions and stay with the group. To join a club you must complete the required registration forms and pay the annual membership fee. Once you join a social club you receive a monthly newsletter with the activity calendar for the upcoming month. You then get to decide which activities you would like to take part in and make your reservation. Activities vary monthly and include: outings to parks festivals movies Sporting events bowling museums dances day trips theaters concerts and more. So make 2007 a year to remember! Successful In-Service Training Held On January 20 92 therapeutic recreation program and inclusion support staff attended an in-service training held at the Oakcrest Community Center. Trainers from Project Act provided two sessions: Autism II- M.O.D.E.L.S. for Behavior and Autism IV-Adapting to the World Around Them. Special Recognition Awards Presented Congratulations to Wesley Persons and Wilhemina Duvall who were presented with a performance recognition award for their long term service of over 15 years with the Special Programs Division.
