Topic: Lingerie
Sort Desciption: This year has seen a surge of interest in the history of lingerie,
following Figleaves.com's celebration of 100 years since the
word "brassiere" became common parlance.
Content Inside: While the earliest known bra (used in the loosest term) seems to have originated with warrior Minona women on the Greek isle of Crete around 2,000 BC, it was not until the 13th century when the idea entered the mainstream with the introduction of the corset. Having developed from a lace structure that supported the bare breasts at the base and pushed them upwards and outwards to a stiff linen under bodice known in the 1300s as the "cotte', it went onto become a rigid and highly decorated centrepiece known as a basque in the Middle Ages.
