Content Inside: The Weight of the World Combating Obesity Projects Projects will be presented to the rest of the class and be put on display in the Practical Arts hallway. 1. You are a City Planner and have been commissioned by the City of Winnipeg to create the perfect community for combating obesity. Design an ideal Pedestrian community which focuses on promoting healthy living (allows utilitarian exercising): increased activity and easier access to healthy food choices (harder access to unhealthy food choices). 2. You are a Summer Camp Supervisor and noticed that overweight and obese children are ostracized (banished excluded) by their peers and therefore are less likely to join in physical activities. What strategies could be employed at your summer camp to change this situation? Plan a weeks worth of daily activities which focuses on (1) increasing physical activity through fun/games/cooperation (2) eating right (create healthy meal plans) and (3) increasing self- esteem activities. Your goal is to have the overweight/obese children enjoy their time with you and end up leaving your camp feeling better about themselves. 3. Create a montage (artwork created from many small pieces) of at least 50 man-made inventions (appliances electronics time-saving devices etc) that have made life easier for us (contributing to obesity). These items are directly related to: reduced activity & over consumption of food in our society. Include headings trivia etc. 4. You are a dietician who is working with a challenging client that enjoys eating fast foods on a regular basis. This client does not enjoy eating healthy foods. You must convince him/her that eating healthy although challenging can be delicious and just as satiating. Your task is to convert 7 fast food MEALS from at least 4 different fast food restaurants (include side dishes beverages desserts etc) into very similar home-cooked healthy meals. 5.
