Content Inside: “The Best Ticket in Town” 36 WOOD CARVING Chairman: Ernie Mills, Perry Exhibits Received: September 14-15, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. NO SUNDAY RECEIVING - NO SUNDAY RELEASE! Exhibits Released: October 15-16, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 1. Mail entry forms by September 1 for early registration! 2. Exhibitors may enter as many classes in their Division as they wish: limit two entries per class. Any carving entered in any previous Georgia National Fair competition is not eligible for reentry. 3. Entries are to be made of wood. Other materials may be used for habitat and structural purposes; however they are to be handformed with the exception of glass eyes. 4. The use of “rough out” blanks will not be acceptable for any Division. 5. The use of cast feet and bills is strongly discouraged and will negatively affect the judging. 6. Carver’s names must be covered. Please be sure name cannot be read through tape. 7. Carvings will be displayed in glass cases as space permits or on protected shelves. The following divisions and judging criteria are based on those established by the Ward Foundation and are used here with permission. NOVICE DIVISION This division is for the beginner. A carver may enter this division for a maximum of five years, after which he/she will automatically move up to the Intermediate Division. However, a beginner may choose to move himself/ herself up at any time prior to the five year limit. INTERMEDIATE DIVISION This division is for the more experienced carver. Any carvings submitted in this division known to be original will receive favorable judging over any carvings known to have been made using published patterns. A carver who accumulates twelve (12) blue ribbons in this division or one who wins two (2) Awards of Excellence will be required to move up to the Open Division.
